Study Group Mathematics with Industry 2019
The Study Group Mathematics with Industry 2019 was held from 28 January to 1 February 2019. Topics went from traffic lights to towing tanks, from chips to carbon filters and from force plates to 3D prints in concrete. Sixty mathematicians gathered at Wageningen University & Research to solve six questions from companies – in one week.
What is SWI?
The Study Group Mathematics with Industry (SWI) is a combined industrial–academic week-long workshop sponsored by NWO. Roughly seventy mathematicians work in groups on problems submitted by companies. Companies present a selection of problems on Monday. The participants devote the entire week to studying these problems in smaller groups, and presents their results on Friday.
Fruitful collaborations
SWI is ideal for companies that are new to cooperation with academia. The event is often a first step towards a fruitful long-term collaboration between companies and academia.
Participate: SWI 2020
SWI 2020 will be held at Fontys in Tilburg from 27 January to 31 January 2020. If you wish to contribute a problem to SWI 2020, please contact the organization committee through swi2020@fontys.nl. We will then contact you to discuss the details of the suggested problem and whether it is suitable for SWI. Discussions about suggested problems have turned out to be very fruitful for companies. After the discussion about a suggested problem, a formal decision about acceptance will made by the SWI organization committee.
