Jan de Munck: “Most exciting academic events I attended in the past ten years”
February 12, 2020
To my pleasure and great surprise the SWI-group rather quickly came with a fruitful approach to address and solve the customer-sorting center connection problem! Without going into detail, important ingredients of their solution were to use the degrees of freedom in the problem to construct very neat linearly increasing supply lines to minimize sorting costs and to invoke the Hungarian algorithm to minimize the transport costs subject to these supply lines. These results surpassed all expectations! Not only does my week at Fontys belong to the most exciting academic events I attended in the past ten years, I also think that with the work done by the SWI- group, will potentially have great impact on the way the parcel logistics at PostNL is arranged.
